A biking tour with focus on two authors: Viktor Rydberg and Elin Wägner.
The tour passes the following villages: Åby - Berg - Tolg - Tjureda - Åby
The bike tour starts in Åby, 20 km north of Växjö, situated by the northern point of Helgasjön. The lock, located in the middle of the town, is the most southern lock in Sweden. On the tour up towards Berg, alongside the lakes Skavenässjön and Bergsjön, you can see rock carvings from the bronze age in Hjulatorp.
Soon you arrive at the abandoned graveyard in Berg, a peaceful place, situated above the lake Bergsjön, with its special history. You then bike past the stylish, old manor, where the author Viktor Rydberg found inspiration for his story "Singoalla", while living at the manor. After that, you arrive at Elin Wägners Lilla Björka. Elin Wägner was an author, who fought for both peace and the environment and women's suffrage. She spent her childhood and teenage summers in the neighborhood. Later on she built Lilla Björka in Berg with "the most beautiful view in the world". Do not forget to pay a visit to the local history society's house, where you can enjoy the view, and the cemetery.
You can buy a bicykle map at the tourist center in Växjö.
